The first Head Physician Vladimir Iosifovich Starikovich during his career made a significant contribution to the development of the Health Centre and the formati Brest Regional Psychoneurologic Health Centre was established in November 1964. It included 4 physician’s offices, the outpatient forensic psychiatric expert commission, 15-bed hospital. on of psychiatric services in general.

From 1969 to 1979 Olga Markovna Kuzmicheva was in charge of the Health Centre.

Aleksei Alekseyevich Kuznetsov, who had been managing the Health Centre for 25 years (from 1979 to 2005), made a priceless contribution to its development. Holding to progressive opinions, he became a groundbreaker of many innovative ideas in the field of the development of psychiatric service in the region. Hospitals for children and adults were the first opened in the Republic.

Since January 2005 Nikolai Petrovich Skaskevich has been the Head of the Health Centre.

The staff of the Health Centre has been awarded many times for the achieved progress in the development of public psychiatric services and high standards of medical service.

At present, Brest Regional Psychoneurologic Health Centre is a big diagnostic and treatment institution, which provides the population of Brest and Brest region with highly-specialized psychiatric aid. The organizational and methodological department of the Health Centre coordinates all the work of mental health security service in the region.

The Healthcare Institution Brest Regional Psychoneurologic Health Centre is the head establishment of the psychiatric services of the region, which provides people with treatment and consulting aid in psychiatry, sexology and psychology, and renders organizational and methodological assistance to health institutions of the region. It is also the grounds where physicians specializing in psychiatry undergo their internship.

The Health Center provides specialized aid for people in three stages:

- provides services to the population of Brest and Brest region as a first-stage institution;

- provides services to the population of Kobrin, Malorita, Zhabinka, Kamenets and Drogichin region as a second-stage institution;

- provides services to the population of Brest region as a third-stage institution.

Main objectives of the Healthcare Institution Brest Regional Psychoneurologic Health Centre:

Structural divisions of the Healthcare Institution Brest Regional Psychoneurologic Health Centre:

2.1 Advisory, organizational and methodological department;
2.2 Polyclinic with the capacity of 61 visits per shift;
2.3 Sexologist room;
2.4 Psychiatrist rooms;
2.5 “Hotline” psychiatric emergency aid;
2.6 borderline cases day treatment department with the capacity of 50 seats;
2.7 children’s day treatment department with the capacity of 50 seats;
2.8 psychiatric day treatment department with the capacity of 35 seats;

Our establishment has an efficient and well-coordinated team, that consists of 24 psychiatrists-drug therapists, 1 sexologist, 1 general physician and 1 neurologist. 94% of our physicians have qualification categories; they regularly attend advanced training courses. All our psychiatrists-drug therapists are the members of the Belarusian Psychiatric Association, which is included in the World Psychiatric Association.
The Healthcare Institution Brest Regional Psychoneurologic Health Centre is actively involved in international cooperation:
1. Many of the psychiatrists advanced their qualification having participated in the two-year international educational project, organized by the Swedish Eastern Europe Union for the young psychiatrists of the Republic of Belarus
2. In September 2012 the Healthcare Institution Brest Regional Psychoneurologic Health Centre received a grant for the project implementation of the international technical assistance of the European Union “Development of Cooperation of Medical Institutions of the Polish-Belarusian Borderland in the Scope of Acute Psychiatric Disorders Treatment”. At present, the Health Centre conducts the activities within this project: medical equipment, medical transport and computer equipment are being acquired; repair works in the structural divisions are being carried out; trainings, educational seminars, online conferences, exchange trips with the colleagues from Poland are being organized.
